Wakestock

Hey guys,

So we have just arrived back to Ireland after a long weekend at Wakestock in Cardigan Bay, Wales. We packed the car up with board bags on the roof and took the ferry over early on Thursday morning. It was my first time in Wales and my first observation was that yes, it is true what people say, there are a LOT of sheep!I

I had such a great weekend, the weather was amazing, the rain stayed away and the sun was out for the women and mens finals on the Saturday. It was my first year competing in the competition and being a Wakestock rookie i was told....prepare for the most choppy waters and then Wakestock ....it is worse.
However, along with the sun came calmer water, a few rollers, but we could not have asked for better conditions. All the girls went out and stuck down some solid passes, leaving it very close between positions. Robbie Rendo did not disappoint as she stuck an awesome pass to collect 1st place. Fellow Ultrasport rider Charlotte Bryant finished 2nd and I was so happy to come away with a third place in my first year of Wakestock. That definitely put a great finish to a fantastic weekend.

I was also extremely happy to be there to witness David O'Caoimh absolutely dominate the pro mens division at the weekend. He had such an amazing run in the Finals and managed to entertain the crowd of thousands throughout. Finishing in 1st place at such a huge event was a massive achievement for David, as well as getting his name up with renowned riders such as Philip Soven and Mark Kenny.

On the Music front, it was awesome to see Biffy Clyro and Ed Sherrin on the Sunday night. I have definitely been bitten by the 'Wakestock bug' and cant wait to get back next year. Hopefully the weather will be just as good.. fingers crossed!

Having a quick stop off in Dublin tonight, then heading to Italy at sunrise for Worlds.

I will keep you updated.

Hey

So i am just back from Riverfest, a festival in Northern Ireland to promote the river Bann in Coleraine.

There was everything from rowing races in the morning to the extreme jet skiing team from England. Not forgetting, the wakeboarders, including Scotty Broome and Matt Crowhurst who joined us for the weekend to do some demo's for the festival.

It was such a great weekend, the weather was so nice which is pretty rare and it brought in crowds of over 8,000 over the weekend.

It was a long weekend and i am pretty tired, although hopefully i will get a set in before i head to wakestock early Thursday morning.

I'll keep you updated on the comps to come!!

Irish Nationals

Hi guys,

Just back from the Irish Wakeboard Nationals which were in Dungannon in Northern Ireland. They were really early in the season so that the Team selectors would have time to choose who is going to go to Italy to represent Ireland in the Worlds in about 3 weeks time. This had its pros and cons as there was not much time for preparation, but it was great to get everyone riding together so early in the season.

There was an entire new generation this year with the youngest rider just 7 years of age!! It really was great to see all these young up and coming riders. In the Women's division it was Sian Hurst, as expected, who took the gold medal, with a load of nice big stylish inverts and spins, showing that her training with Glen Fletcher in Orlando for the last month has paid off. Then in the Men's division Paul Johnston came third, followed by Pete Stewart and then fortunately I took first place, but I can tell you that those boys did not make it easy for me and the points difference between Pete and me was less than 3!

We had a lot of fun too driving in convoy from the hotel to the lake and a really fun dinner on the Saturday night with about 70 people there.

All in all a great weekend and I was delighted to be able to retain my title.Well done to everyone who took part and I can't wait till the next few contests.

Hey everyone,

So I'm back home again after a few weeks training in Orlando.
I had such a great time over there, the weather was fantastic and the wakes were massive!!!

After quite a few months off the water for winter it was nice to get back in the swing of things for the season.
I was able to get all my tricks back pretty quick and land some new ones also.

It's nice to be home again riding with the Irish because it's always a blast, i just wish i could have brought the weather back with me....... fingers crossed for a heat wave some time soon!!

I took part in the Irish Nationals this weekend and was very happy to come home with 1st place in the open ladies. Now i am trying to get on the water as much as i can in between wind and rain to train for the World Championships in Italy.

I am also taking part in wakestock this year, it's my first wakestock experience and i am very excited!

Just back from Xtreme Gene in Spain. That place is unbelievable! The weather was so bad in Ireland since Easter (only 2 days in 4 weeks with no wind or heavy rain!!) so it was sick to get out to the heat and flat calm water.
It was great to ride with guys like David Coates and Andres.

Irish Nationals this weekend - fingers crossed for defending my title!

Thanks for reading.

Hey guys, hows it going?
Sorry I haven't posted in a while I have been super busy with riding and things. I have a few new posts coming up with some cool stuff that we have done! But this one is about the little beach trip we did this weekend!Me, Sam, Steph, Stew, Meghan and JT all ventured up to Sebastian beach to camp on Saturday night then we drove to Melborune beach to surf on Sunday morning. There was some pretty good surf out today but it was scary as I have only surfed once before. It was great fun though and I can't wait to do it again!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while we have been without power for nearly 48hrs! Got hit really bad by a storm that was pretty much a tornado' one of the scariest things I have witnessed! So we have finally got our power back which is nice means we can shower and cook food without having to use candles to light up the rooms at night!Throughout the storm I took some videos and pictures so that you could see what we went through it was mad. It just came down on us so quickly. We had just got in from the boat (I was about to go riding!!). We decided that they sky didn't look to friendly so stopped riding and then when we got into the house the news was saying there was tornados heading our way. Pretty good job we didn't stay out there! Some crazy stuff went on during this storm. The trampoline got sent at least 10ft up into the air and there were trees falling down all over the place, which is why we didn't have power because one fell on the power line

Hi guys,

Well the weather has really warmed up here in Ireland over the past two weeks and the water was flat calm at the weekend. The girl who won the radio competition prize of an O'Brien wakeboard and a lesson with me on our lake came up on Saturday. We told her to bring a friend and they had a blast. Tanya or Lorraine had never done anything like wakeboarding or snowboarding but they did really well. They both got up and lasted an hour and a half between them so they must be recked. Anyway, they loved it and wanted to know what club they could go to to do it again and they said they were going to tell all their friends what a great sport wakeboarding is.

Next Sunday night I fly to Orlando for two weeks finishing up at the Air Nautique Wake Games so I can't wait for that. Hope I can still go though as my Mum broke her foot yesterday and is in plaster and I can't hire a car.

Thanks,

Hi Everyone,

Just back from an absolutely epic trip to Xtreme-Gene in Spain. I went out to visit Irish team member David Coates who is one of the coaches out there. It was brilliant to get some warm weather as the weekend before I flew out we had snow again in Cavan and once again I came in from the lake with freezing hands and feet! Xtreme Gene is a sick place to ride.

There are miles and miles of flat water and while the water is still a bit cold this time of the year because it is a really deep dam, the air temperatures were in the high teens to low 20s during the day.

The photos aren't the best but this a great place. We had an amazing few days and it was extremely beneficial for both DC's and my riding as we kept pushing one another. By the end of the few days I could no longer walk with sore muscles and exhaustion, but we were both riding pretty well. He had his toe 7 and whirly 5 consistent and I was beginning to get my toeside back 5's solid.

All in all a great few days and a really good season opener and I can assure you it most definitely won't be my last time there!!

Thanks,

Hey,

Received my 2011 kit last week, after a full week sitting staring at it whilst i was stuck in the City at university, i finally broke free to the lake to try it out.

I went for the Wing board again.... why change something you love eh, it still did not disappoint.

However, to vary it up a bit i decided to go for some closed toe Melissa bindings this year, yes i'm giving in to the fact that they are the 'new' way to go, after a few seasons avoiding the transformation i have to agree with the majority and move to the closed toe side of life.... the grass seems greener over here!

It's Nice to be back on the water after what seemed like the coldest, longest winter in history!

I have hung up my ice skates, and roll on the summer months!

Dublin adventure film festival

Dublin adventure film festival.

On February 4th I headed to the
sugar club in Dublin for the annual 'Dublin adventure film festival'. I was
attending the show because the wakeboarding night shoot that I took part in
November was up for nomination of best film.

There was an assortment of people from the
extreme sports athlete, to the artistic film creator and other general members
of the public, all gathering to support the showing of 17 adventure films, from
amateur to professional.
The festival was a great success,
unfortunately we did not win but the film that did was a surfing film called
'to be continued' which was film in Indonesia, with a background like that to
start with, I think it was hard to compete but we seemed to be up there with
the best. Many people came and told me that they were very impressed by the
night shoot.

Thanks again to Joe Copage the creator of
the night shoot.

Hi everyone,

Well, after my year starting off so well riding over in South Africa I came home and just as the ice melted from the lake I got sick. They thought it was Swine Flu at first but I got much sicker and ended up in hospital for a week with kidney failure and they think I had Weil's Disease. Not very nice. So I am recovering now and am back at school but I don't have a lot of energy.

However, I have something to look forward to this weekend as the Wakeboard Night Shoot Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqXSzZairLA which was filmed at our place last November is one of 17 nominated films for the WAFF film festival awards here in Dublin. This is pretty cool as the films last year came from North and South America, Australia, Africa and all over the world. Fingers crossed it wins!

Here's a press cutting about the festival. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/theticket/2011/0128/1224288440320.html?sms_ss=twitter&at_xt=4d4292495dcd1492,0

South Africa 2010/2011

Luckily the Hippos weren't in the water on the stretch we were riding!! Hi guys

,Having a phenomenal time here in South Africa. After spending five days on a cable in a place called Warmbaths (also called Bela Bela), about two hours north of Jo'burg, I packed my gear and went down to my friend and coach Kevin Dry in Port Edward.

His school (Boardalign wakeboard school) is really great as he has a fully loaded X Star that kicks up an insane wake! He also has a sick rooftop rail that we hit a fair amount. I've been riding with Kevin for about 10 days now and am really having a great time and learning some new stuff.

Unfortunately the weather hasn't been the best as it is their rainy season! Although for the past two days it has been hot enough to give my fair Irish skin a nice burning! ha ha.

All in all I'm having a fantastic time out here and I'm just hoping that the ice has melted on the lake by the time I get home in a couple of days.

Thanks for reading.
